M State golfer Wyatt Blomseth fired a 2-under par 70 and is tied for first place in the individual competition at the NJCAA Division III Men’s National Golf Tournament in Chautauqua, New York after three rounds of play.  Blomseth’s three day total is a 3-over par 219, tying him with Andreas Huber of Sandhills CC for first place.  The Spartans shot a 303 team total which leaves them at 916 through three rounds and in third place.  Sandhills Community College is first with a 906 and Georgia Military is second at 910.

“There was some tremendous golf played today by three very good teams,” said M State Head Coach Jason Retzlaff.  “We played very well with some very difficult hole locations on this Donald Ross course.  I was thrilled with the way the team played well in a big moment.  We were able to gain on Georgia, but Sandhills played even better.  We will need a special round tomorrow to have a chance, but a lot of things can happen in golf on the final day.  Our team looks forward to the challenge.”

Carter Justesen recorded a 75 on Thursday, leaving him in seventh place with a 3-day total of 229.  Hunter Burnside shot a 76 and is tied for eighth place with a score of 233.  Grant Inniger’s 82 puts him at 235, tied for 12th place.  John Vall had an 82 and Mikey Vall came in with an 80.

“Wyatt was in total control today and played outstanding,” noted Retzlaff.  “He only made one bogey playing with the other individual leaders.  His poise and mental resolve has been a great asset.  He is playing championship caliber golf and he has put himself in a great spot going into tomorrow.  Carter and Hunter also played great golf today.  Carter putted the ball very well and Hunter continues to hit great shots and is getting rewarded.  It was also a highlight to see John and Mikey both post their best rounds of the week.  John is really close to putting together a low round and Mikey has been very consistent this week.”

The Spartans will tee off at 10:50am Eastern time on Thursday in the fourth and final round of the tournament.
