The M State Men’s Golf Team followed up their 301 first round team score with a 312 on Wednesday in the second round of the NJCAA Division III National Tournament in Chautauqua, New York. Their two-day total of 613 places them third, behind Georgia Military Academy 603 (303-300) and Sandhills CC 604 (304-300).

Andreas Huber of Sandhills (71-73=144) is the individual leader with Georgia Military’s Dylan Humphries (73-73=146) in second place.

The Spartans carded 4 scores in the 70’s for the second consecutive day, led by Wyatt Blomseth with a 76.  Blomseth (73-76=149) is tied for third place in the individual competition.  Hunter Burnside 78, Carter Justesen 79 and Grant Inninger 79, all broke 80 on the day.  Inniger (74-79=153) is in eighth place, Justesen (75-79=154) is tied for ninth and Burnside (79-78=157) is sitting in twelfth place through the first two rounds.  John Vall shot an 87 and Mikey Vall, competing individually, fired an 83.

“While it was a solid score, we couldn’t quite get over the hump today as some big numbers throughout the round hurt us,” stated Spartan Head Coach Jason Retzlaff.  “It’s always nice to get four scores in the 70’s and to do that on consecutive days at the national tournament is great to see.  This team has a lot of confidence and look forward to playing well on moving day tomorrow.  We are excited to play with two of the elite two-year college golf programs in Georgia Military and Sandhills.”
