Otter Boys Golf Team Qualifies for Section Tournament

The Otter Boys Golf Team competed in the 8 team subsection golf tournament at Headwaters Golf Club on June 2nd.  The Otters needed to finish in the top 3 to move on to the section golf tournament in Bemidji.  

After getting off to a tough start, the Otters were flipping between 3rd and 4th place with Perham after 12 holes.  The Otters played great over their last 6 holes and ended up in 3rd place ahead of Perham with a score of 337 compared to Perham's 347.  The tournament was won by Barnesville with a score of 314 and Detroit Lakes finished 2nd at 317.

The Otters were led by a pair of freshmen, Riley McGovern and Ryan Nelson, who both shot an 81.  That score put them both in a tie for 9th out of the 48 golfers in the field. Senior Captain, Chance Fazio, shot an 86 and eighth grader, Adam Kennedy, rounded out the scoring for the Otters with an 89. Sophomore, Charlie Fuder, also competed and shot a 90 while freshman, Gavin Goepferd, fired a 96. 

Adam Tonsfeldt led the South Sub-Section champion Trojans with a 73.  Tate Inniger came in with a 77, Mason Moen shot an 80, Ryan Rustad and Logan Ernst had 84’s and Ayden Hauck finished with a 101.

Individually the tournament was won by Lucas Justeson of Detroit Lakes with an impressive even par, 72.  Other DL scored included Tommy Suckert with an 80, Jake Green with an 82, Jack Syltie with an 83, Nick Tobkin with an 85 and Noah Meyer with an 89.

The Otters, Trojans and Lakers will now compete in the section tournament on June 7th and 8th in Bemidji for the chance to qualify for the state tournament. 

"It was a great day for the up and coming Otters.  This experience is so great for us," said head coach Matt McGovern.  

Other Section qualifiers from the South Sub-Section include Tait Bormann, Brayden Glorvigen and Marcus Belka of Perham, Carter Hillukka and Andreas Aho of United North Central, and Cole Woods of Wadena-Deer Creek.
