Pelican Rapids and Barnesville split two high school baseball games on Friday with the Trojans taking game one by the score of 3-2 and the Vikings getting the second game, 10-3.

Pelican Rapids lost a heartbreaker in game one.  The Vikings scored a run in the first on McHale Korf’s double and a Trojan error.  They stretched the lead to 2-0 in the 5th on Tim Guler’s run scoring single, following Luke Sjolie’s walk and Korf’s single.  Barnesville took the lead in the bottom of the 6th.  A walk started the inning before the next two batters were retired but then 2 infield errors, a single and another walk put the Trojans up 3-2.  Weston Funk went 5 2/3 on the mound, giving up 4 hits and striking out 6.  All 3 runs off him were unearned.  Luke Sjolie relieved Funk and retired the one batter he faced on a great run saving catch by Korf in center.  The Vikings went down in order in the 7th.  Funk also had 3 hits in the game.

Pelican got their bats going in the 2nd game, highlighted by Carson McNeal’s 3 run homer in the 4th to lead the Vikings to a 10-3 win.  Pelican got 3 runs in the 1st, 3 in the 4th and 4 in the 4th.  McNeal and Brock Sjolie had 3 hits apiece with Sjolie having a double and a triple.  McHale Korf and Timmy Guler each had 2 hits.  Logan Fahje, Peyton Blakeway and Luke Sjolie also collected base hits.  Luke Sjolie pitched the entire game, improving his record to 6-1.  He surrendered 4 hits, struck out 8 and did not allow an earned run. The 3rd game in a row that Vikings pitchers had not allowed an earned run.
