Perham Pitchers Record Two Shutouts Against Pelican Rapids

Chas Melvin tossed a one-hit shutout in a 13-0 win in game one of Perham’s double header with Pelican Rapids on Thursday, and the Yellowjackets blanked the Vikings 7-0 in game two at Chauncey Martin Field in Pelican Rapids.

Melvin went 6 innings, allowing just the one hit, striking out 14 batters and walking none.  He was also 1-for-5 at the plate with a stolen base and a run scored.  Finn Diggins went 2-for-4 with a double and 4 runs batted in, Austin Aanenson was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, a run scored and a stolen base, Ben Shumansky went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 runs scored, and Jacob McAllister knocked in a pair of runs with a sacrifice fly and a fielder’s choice ground out, and also scored a run.  Rian Solberg and Jack Mensing each scored 3 runs and each recorded a stolen base.  McHale Korf had the lone hit for Pelican Rapids and Luke Sjolie stole a base.

Logan Pulju (6IP, 2H, 8K, 1BB) and Austin Aanenson (1IP, 1K, 1BB) combined on the shutout in the second game.  Carsen McNeal and Timmy Guler had the two singles for the Vikings.  Offensive leaders for Perham were Melvin (2-3, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 2R, BB), Andrew Smith (2-3, RBI, 3R), Shumansky (1-2, RBI, R, HBP) and McAllister (1-3, R, SB).

Perham (13-2) will be at home to Moorhead on Thursday, May 20, and will host Breckenridge in a double header on Monday, May 24.

Pelican Rapids (5-6) is off until next Thursday when they play a road game against Ottertail Central.
