The Brandon-Evansville Chargers overcame a 4-2 deficit with six runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth on Thursday as they recorded a 12-4 win over New York Mills.

The Chargers got things going in the first inning when Dezmond White singled home Brady Perleberg who led off with a walk.  New York Mills tied the game in the third when Derin Gaudette scored on Abe Carlson’s base hit.  B-E took a brief 2-1 lead when Kyle Schaffran scored on Tyler Bitzan’s 2-our RBI double in the bottom of the third.

The Eagles tallied three runs in their half of the fifth inning, chasing starting pitcher Jayden Hoidahl and taking a 4-2 lead over the Chargers.  Brandon-Evansville responded in the bottom of the fifth, scoring all six of their runs after two outs were recorded.  Kian Gackle, Riley Perleberg, Dezmond White and Kyle Schaffran all had hits in the inning.  They put the game away with four more runs in the sixth.  Brady Perleberg (3IP, 0R, 0H, 5K, BB) was the winning pitcher.

“I can’t say how pleased I am with the team effort tonight,” said Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Riley Perleberg.  “Every single player who was in the lineup made a contribution and we played with a high level of intensity.  Tyler Bitzan and Titus Fuller came up with some clutch extra base hits when we needed them and we got timely hitting when we needed it.  Brady Perleberg’s relief pitching performance was impressive considering the situation when he entered the game in the 5th, and we were pleased with how composed the defense played against a team of their caliber.  Kyle Schaffran and Jayden Hoidahl played solid defensively in the outfield in some windy and difficult conditions.   New York Mills is a well-coached and very talented ball club and will be a top force to be reckoned with in Section 6A all season long.”

Carlson led New York Mills with two hits in three at bats.

Brandon-Evansville will host Pelican Rapids on Friday night.
