Rothsay Girls Win Home Game Against Hillcrest

The Rothsay softball team exploded for ten runs on five hits in the sixth inning of their 14-7 win over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy on Tuesday.

Hillcrest took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but Rothsay answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning on a double by Madison Tillman and a single by Abby Honer.  The Comets scored 3 times in the top of the second to take a 5-2 lead and added another in the top of the fourth for a 6-2 lead.  Rothsay added a run in the bottom of the fourth and another in the bottom of the fifth, cutting the Hillcrest lead to 7-4.

The Comets were led by Madison Ballweg (3H, 2B), Cassandra Twedt (2H, HR), Madi Foss (2B), Mack Foss (2H, 2B), Hailee May (2B), Juliana Viksnes (2B) and Alyssa Broyles (H).  Hillcrest also had 8 stolen bases, led by Ballweg with 3, Mack Foss and Viksnes with 2 each.  Madi Foss pitched the whole game, striking out 5 batters and allowing 11 hits.

Emma Buckingham (2H, 3 RBI), Honer (3H, 2 RBI) and Tillman (2H) led the Tigers at the plate.  Katie Reber was the winning pitcher.

The Tigers also hosted Breckenridge in a game on Tuesday, losing to the Cowgirls by the score of 20-4.
