Yellowjackets Win Two Road Games on Saturday

Perham headed to Duluth for a pair of high school baseball games on Saturday and brought back wins over Hermantown and Duluth East.

Perham beat Hermantown 15-10, banging out 17 hits in the process and playing errorless ball in the field.  Perham overcame a 6-1 deficit with a 7-run fourth inning, however, Hermantown regained the lead at 9-8 in the fifth.  Three runs in the sixth and four in the seventh secured the win for the Yellowjackets.

Hitting leaders for the Yellowjackets were Andrew Smith (3-5, 2 R, RBI), Ben Shumansky (3-4, 2 RBI, 2R), Chas Melvin (3-5, 2 RBI, 3R), Logan Pulju (2-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 3R), Jack Mensing (2-3, 2 RBI) and Austin Aanenson (2-4, 2B, RBI, 2R).  Rian Solberg and Jacob McAllister each added a double and Solberg drew 3 walks on the day.

Austin Schmelz (3.2IP, 6H, 4ER, 4K, 4BB) was the winning pitcher and Austin Aanenson (3IP, 1H, 2K, 1BB) earned the save.

A 3-run ninth inning led Perham to a 9-7 victory over Duluth East.   Perham had 4 errors in the game which led to 6 unearned runs.  Logan Pulju (3.1IP, 3H, 1R, 0ER, 1K, 2BB) earned the win in relief of starter Chas Melvin (5.2IP, 7H, 6R, 1ER, 6K, 2BB).

Offensively, Jacob McAllister was 1-for-5 with 2 runs batted in and one runs scored.  Andrew Smith had a double in 5 at bats, knocking in 2 runs and scoring one.  Pulju was 2-for-5 with a run scored, and Ben Shumansky was 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and one run.

Nine different players scored for Perham in the game and Duluth East had seven different players cross the plate.
