Logan Pulju, Gage Germolus and Jack Mensing each hit their first career varsity home runs in the first game, each of the roundtrippers coming with a man on base. Offensive leaders were Germolus (3-4, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, 3R), Andrew Smith (3-4, 2B, 3R), Pulju (2-4, HR, 3 RBI, R), Mensing (2-4, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 2R) and Ben Shumansky (2-4, 2 2B, RBI, 2R). Pulju (2IP, H, K) and Caden Schossow (3IP, 2H, R, 2K) combined on a 3-hitter for Perham. Teague Spillum was 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Nuggets. Ryan Sperr and Joey Aakre had the other hits.
In game two, Mensing (2-3, HR, 5 RBI, 3R) hit his second home run of the day and drove in five runs. Jacob McAllister had a single, double and triple in 3 at bats, driving home 3 runs and scoring once. Rian Solberg added 3 RBI with a double in 3 trips to the plate. Chas Melvin (2-3, 2B, 3R), Germolus (2-2, 2B, RBI), Smith (3-4, RBI, 2R) and Pulju (2-3, 2B, 2R) also contributed offensively. Eighth grader Ashton Detloff, a lefty, made his first varsity pitching appearance, facing 4 batters in one inning of work and recording his first strikeout. Caden Schossow (3IP, 2H, 2K, 1BB) was the winning pitcher.
Perham improves to 4-1 on the season. They will play at Hermantown and at Duluth East on Saturday afternoon.
