In game one, Shay Endres picked ups his third win of the season, allowing five hits in five innings, striking out 8 batters and walking one. Both runs allowed were unearned. Elijah Holthaus finished the final two innings, allowing no runs on two hits. Holthaus struck out 3 and walked 1.
“We collected a total of ten hits in the first game with half of those hits being doubles,” reported Alexandria Head Coach Jacob Munsch.
The double parade was led by Devan Swerman with 3 of them, followed by Devin Cimbura and Elijah Holthaus who each collected one. Other Card hitters included Grady Anderson, Lake Hagen, JD Hennen and Nate Hammerback.
The Cardinals fell behind 4-0 in the first inning of game two, but battled back nicely in the home half of the inning, scoring 3 runs. They continued to battle in the game and evened things up at 5-5 going into the sixth inning where Brainerd was able to plate a run to take the late lead. In the bottom of the sixth the Cardinals scored four times to take a 9-6 lead. Swerman picked up the win in game two, going 4 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 4 hits. He walked six and struck out four. Parker Jendro relieved Swerman and kept the Cardinals in check, allowing just one hit while striking out 3 in his 3 innings on the mound. A total of nine hits were collected in game two with again many doubles being recorded. Brock Lerfald, Devin Cimbura, Devan Swerman, Nate Hammerback and Elijah Holthaus each produced a double. Cimbura led the offensive effort by going 3-for-4 at the plate.
Alexandria improved to 5-2, winning their fourth straight game. They will host Sartell-St. Stephen at 5:00pm Thursday and Moorhead under the lights on Friday with the first pitch scheduled for 7:00pm.
