The Otter Boys Golf team competed in their 2nd Central Lakes Conference meet of the year.  The meet previously scheduled for April 19th at Alexandria Golf Club was postponed a few days to April 22nd because of weather.  The boys had to adjust to a new location as well as scheduling issues at AGC moved the tournament to Geneva Golf Club.  "Geneva is a big golf course.  Lots of property which challenges all aspects of the game.  Some holes are wide with fairway bunkers that force the golfers to hit shots they aren't used to.  Other holes are tight with tree lined fairways and water hazards.  It is a great golf course and a welcome change to be honest," said boys coach, Matt McGovern.

The team welcomed back senior captain, Chance Fazio, who missed the first 2 meets because of the state high school basketball tournament.  "To have Chance back is great.  He is so good with this young team and all the boys think the world of him," McGovern said.

The team also improved 20 shots over the first CLC meet and finished 4th out of 9 teams.  "We compete in a conference where 7 of the 9 teams are AAA.  It is just us and ROCORI who compete in AA.  These big schools have huge teams and more numbers than we have.  Finishing 4th and beating 4 other AAA teams, as well as the other AA team is a testament to these young guys.  We had three 9th graders lead us in scoring which is so impressive and tells you how strong this team will be in the years to come," said McGovern.

Ryan Nelson (freshman) led the Otters in scoring for the 2nd straight tournament with an 81.  Gavin Goepferd (freshman) shot an 82, Riley McGovern (freshman) shot an 83, and Chance Fazio (senior) rounded out the scoring with an 85.  "The team score of 331 was a huge improvement and more in line with what we are capable of," coach McGovern said.  Also competing for the Otters were Charlie Fuder (sophomore) with a 96,  and Davis Shol (freshman) with a 102.  "Charlie and Davis didn't have their best stuff on Thursday but that is how golf goes.  You have your ups and downs.  They were mentally strong, competed, and didn't give up.  That impressive type of character is so important," McGovern said.

The Otters host their own Central Lakes Conference tournament on Monday at 3:30pm.
