The West Central Area softball team swept a double header from Hillcrest Lutheran Academy on Thursday at Hannah Park in Fergus Falls, winning 15-2 and 15-3.

“We had an impressive triple play in our first game, but we finally started coming around the second game with our hitting,” commented Hillcrest Coach Megan Riestenberg.  “Madison Ballweg and Mackenzie Foss both hit doubles in the second game.  I’m hoping first game jitters are out of the way and our confidence at the plate increases.”

Madi Foss pitched the first game and the last couple of innings of game two, striking out four batters.  Her older sister, Mackenzie pitched in the second game, recording 3 strikeouts.

“Losing our starting pitcher last year and our current pitcher having a year off from competition has set us back a bit on the pitching end,” said Riestenberg.  “Mackenzie stepped in to pitch in game two to change up the speed and it worked pretty well until one of their girls hit a 3-run homer.  Other than that, we had some good infield plays, plenty of stolen bases and knowledge of what we need to improve on before our next game on Tuesday.”

No West Central Area stats were reported.
