Mike Schaub is in his fifteenth season as head coach for the Barnesville Track and Field Team.  McKinzie Solum is in her fourth season as an assistant coach with the Trojans, working with the hurdles, long jump, and triple jump.  Other assistants include Maizey Gilberg (Shot Put, Discus), Jack Schaub (Jr. High Coach, Sprints, Relays, Long Jump), Britta Teeples (Distance, High Jump), Shawn Paschke (Pole Vault), Jenson Beachy (Pole Vault), Scott Amundson (Shot Put, Discus), Nick Paur (Shot Put, Discus) and Chad Suter (High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump).

In 2019 the girls’ squad finished in the top 3, as a team, in most of their regular season track and field meets.  They finished second out of fifteen teams at the Section 6A True Team Track and Field Meet and placed sixth at the Minnesota State True Team Track and Field Meet.  The Trojans were the Sub-Section 30 and Section 8A champions, advancing 19 athletes to the Section 8A Track and Field Meet.  Two girls advanced to the MSHSL Track and Field Meet, Samantha Passa (Triple Jump) and Jordan Tschumperlin (High Jump).  Both of those girls broke the school record in their respective events.

“It was our most successful year having improvements occur throughout the season with all of the girls accelerating to their full potential,” stated Coach Schaub.  “They all exhibited good work ethic with solid performances!”

Seniors on the team are Kimberly Maesse (Pole Vault), Passa (Distance, Jumps, Relays), Alivia Pederson (Shot Put, Discus), Tschumperlin (Jumps, Relays) and Sidney Ahles (High Jump, Distance).  Juniors are Emily Bredman (Distance, Relays), Mathea Jablonsky (Hurdles, Relays), Sydney Rustad (Sprints, Jumps, Relays) and Emily Schoenecker (Sprints, Jumps, Relays).  Sophomore team members include Mya Anderson (Distance, Relays), Rumely Biewer (Discus, Shot Put, Sprints, Relays), Emma Rietz (Sprints, Jumps, Relays), Emily Smith (Sprints, Jumps, Relays) and Belle Peterson (High Jump, Relays).  Freshmen are Ava Foster (Pole Vault), Kenadee Gray (Pole Vault, Relays), Hadley Pearson (Distance, Relays), Olivia Power (Sprints, Jumps, Relays) and Lindsey Rotz (Distance, Relays).

Rounding out the girls’ roster are eighth-graders Ella Cossette, Brooklyn Cota, Ava Follingstad, Sophie Frederick and Jasmine Sistad, and seventh-graders Laila Berg, Anika Cossette, Shayna Erickson, Kendyl Hovde, Ashley Maneval, Ava Ness, Alexis Paul, Camryn Schafer, Allison Smith, Hannah Stetz and Maya Thoennes.

“Returning letter winners are among the athletes to watch this year, in addition to a talented group of 7th and 8th graders,” said Coach Schaub. “Sam Passa and Jordan Tschumperlin should have another good year as both girls advanced to the Minnesota State High School League Track and Field Meet in 2019.  Sam, in the Triple Jump, where she finished in 6th place and Jordan in the High Jump.  Sydney Rustad and Lindsey Rotz are two other girls to watch this year.  Sydney in the sprints and Sprint Relays.  Lindsey in the 800 and 1600 Meter Runs and Sprint Relays. I had several girls attend camps at Concordia and NDSU to better their skills for competition.  I also look for our team to be strong in all areas throwing, jumping, distance, and sprinting. We have a lot of depth and a team with a good work ethic, great dedication and a lot of talent.  We also have a lot of ambitious 7th and 8th graders looking to push the upperclassmen to compete to their fullest potential.”

The boys’ squad is young with only three seniors, Adam Tonsfeldt (Sprints, Relays), Wyatt Roller (Distance) and Joey Mark (Jumps), and three juniors, Kaden Zenzen (Jumps, Throws), Cameron Heng (Sprints, Relays) and Travis Affield (Throws).  Sophomores are Jonathan Robideau (Sprints, Throws), Owen Riddle (Distance), Andrew Pederson (Sprints), Braeden Bredman (Jumps, Sprints) and Aaron Baker (Pole Vault, Sprints).

Rounding out the roster are freshmen David Spillum (Sprints, Jumps) and Ethan Larson (Jumps, Sprints), eighth-graders Nick Robideau, Brady Nosal and Jack Bredman, and seventh-graders Kaden Nosal, Jensen Messer, Jack Martin and Brody Faulkner.
