Thompson led the Owls to a runner-up finish at the Class A State Boys’ Basketball Tournament last week at Target Center in downtown Minneapolis. He scored 20 points, grabbed 19 rebounds, blocked a shot and dished out 2 assists in a 65-53 semifinal round win over Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Wednesday and then had 18 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals in the Owls 61-60 championship game loss to Hayfield on Saturday.
Thompson, who was named MVP of the Pheasant Conference, averaged 21 points, 13 rebounds and 2 assists per game during the season, making 64% of his two-point field goal attempts, hitting 38% of his 3’s and 76% of his free throws. He also recorded 15 blocked shots in 25 games.
