The Fergus Falls girls’ golf team has two returning players with varsity experience in Ellia Soydara and Annika Jyrkas. With no season last spring none of the younger members of the Otters golf team were able to gain varsity experience. Head Coach Ben Jurgens, assistant coach Amber Hovland and junior high coach Elizabeth Abrahams head into the season with more questions than answers as they begin to evaluate their 2021 team, but that’s the same for nearly every team.
“Our goal/expectations for the team this year will be to improve week by week,” said Coach Jurgens. “Hopefully we’ll be playing our best golf in late May and early to mid-June, make it through sub-sections as a team and play well at the section meet.”
Thea Eklund, Talia Nelson, Ella Mayer, Annie Mayer, Lexi Metcalf and Jadyn Bye will all be competing for spots in the varsity lineup.
In the Central Lakes Conference Jurgens says Brainerd, Alexandria, Willmar and St. Cloud Tech are the teams to beat. In Section 8AA the favorites are Perham, Crookston and Roseau.
