As Aaron Schindler enters his sixth season as head coach of the Barnesville softball team, he does so with optimism, even after a canceled 2020 season.  Schindler will be assisted by Nikki Gregg, Madi Abarr, Ace Gregg and Sydney Honek.  Junior pitcher Trinity Gregg and senior second baseman Sam Passa will captain the Trojans.

“This team really buys into our motto of ‘3 units strong’ as they are a tight nit group that is unselfish,” said Schindler.  “They have the WE not ME mentality.  These girls have played together for a few years in all of their sports and have great team chemistry.  We should be strong offensively with our speed and power.  Defensively, we need to look to continue to improve and not beat ourselves.  If we can play fundamentally sound defense and limit the free bases for the other team we will be able to compete with anyone.”

Joining Gregg and Passa in the lineup are juniors Kiana Amundson (Catcher), Lauren Halverson (1B), Lexi Bolgrean (SS), Anna Stanford (CF) and Katie Newell (OF).  Hallie Reading will play a Utility role for the Trojans.  Sophomores Jaida Bontjes (3B) and Kailey Olson (OF/P) are also expected to contribute at the varsity level.

Coach Schindler sees Hawley and DGF as the favorites in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference.  As for Section 8AA, “Hard to know about the top teams in the section since we missed last year, but Hawley should be up there as well as Thief River Falls.  You can never count out DGF either.”
