The M State baseball team played four games against St. Cloud Technical and Community College over the weekend with the Cyclones winning both ends of their Saturday double header in Fergus Falls by scores of 13-0 and 15-2, and taking both games on Sunday in St. Cloud by scores of 7-6 and 10-0.

In the first game on Saturday the Cyclones scored two runs in the first, five in the second and six in the third.  Erik Holloman and Michael Solis both homered for St. Cloud with Holloman and Marcus Cantu each driving in three runs.  The Cyclones had 11 hits in the game and winning pitcher Dylan Haskamp (5IP, 3H, 3BB, 8K) improved to 3-0 on the season.  Kyle Doup, Justin Dykhoff and Christian Norby each had one hit for M State.

Holloman kept his hot bat going in the second game as he homered again and added a double, driving in 4 runs.  Grant Ludwig hit a solo homerun and Haskamp went 3-for-3 with 4 RBI for the Cyclones.  Grady Fuchs (3IP, 4H, 2ER, 2BB, 2K) was the winning pitcher.

In game one on Sunday, the Spartans took a 5-1 lead after four innings, however, St. Cloud tied the game with a 4-run sixth.  Each team scored once in the eighth and the Cyclones pushed across the game winner in the bottom of the ninth.  Hitting leaders for M State were Isaiah Sykora (3-5, RBI, R), Dykhoff (2-3, 2 2B, RBI, R, 2BB) and Doup (2-5, RBI, 2R).  Norby added a double in five at bats and drove in a run.  Will Hoernemann (7IP, 6H, 4ER, 4BB, 3K) started on the mound and did not get a decision.  For St. Cloud, Holloman homered for a third straight game and Will Funk blasted two round trippers, driving in four runs.

Game two saw Christian Lessman (6IP, 3H, 0R, 2BB, 5K) go the distance to gain the shutout victory for the Cyclones.  Jon Blanchette led St. Cloud at the plate with two runs batted in and Haskamp scored twice and delivered a double.

“I thought Will Hoernemann pitched great for us,” said Head Coach Grant Harding of M State. “St Cloud is really good. They are one of the best hitting teams in the league and they showed that this weekend. The scores don't show the effort that our guys gave.”

The Spartans will play two games against Riverland in Austin on Wednesday.
