“We have a lot of talent on the team and the ladies have been playing ball together since they were ten,” said Bauer. “They know how to play and have fun. This season is their opportunity to shine. Overall, I think we are a well-rounded team. The focus point will be coming together as ‘US’ since it has been almost two years since we have played.”
Seniors Alexis Aho (OF), Anissa Antonsen (3B), McKenena O’Brien (1B), Danielle Piche (SS) and Madison Starry (OF/P), and juniors Kiley Karger (2B), Malena Mahoney (P/OF) and Annika Reierson (C/OF) all have starting experience at the varsity level and form a lineup that should be consistently productive. Junior Harley Kroupensk (IF/OF) and Claire Pausch (C/OF) will be looking to crack the lineup.
The Hornets lost seven players to graduation, all missing out on their senior season due to COVID19 canceling the entire spring schedule. Two of them, Brenna Mahoney and Abigail Wothe, are playing college softball for UM-Morris.
Bauer will be assisted by Tavia Bachmann and Julie Karger. Autumn Mahoney (JV Coach), Jolene Tappe (Junior High Coach) and Taylor Tappe (Junior High Coach) round out the coaching staff.
Bauer sees DGF as the team to beat in the tough Heart O’ Lakes Conference.
