Waseca shot 52.7% (29-55) from the field and placed three players in double figures as they recorded a 72-58 semifinal round victory over Fergus Falls on Wednesday at Target Center. The win was the tenth in a row for the Blue Jays and improved their season record to 22-1. The loss for the Otters ended their nine game winning streak as they finish the season with a record of 16-8.
Waseca made 8-of-18 (44.4%) three-pointers, led by Kyreese Willingham with four on nine attempts. Willingham had 21 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists in 36 minutes on the floor. Andrew Morgan hit 10-of-16 shots, leading the BlueJays with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Ryan Dufault added13 points and 7 assists.
Chance Fazio contributed 20 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocked shots in his final game as an Otter. Dominic Aguilar had 14 points and 6 assists and Luke Newman had 11 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists. The Otters shot 37% (23-62) from the floor and held a 35-32 edge on the boards.
The Otters cut the lead to 55-48 midway through the second half, but Waseca went on an 11-0 run to establish a seventeen point lead with just over 4 minutes remaining to secure the win.
Waseca will now face Caledonia at 3:00pm Saturday at Target Center in the AA State Championship game.
