The M State Spartans defeated UM-Morris in a dual golf meet at Tipsinah Mounds Golf Course in Elbow Lake on Monday, shooting a score of 294 compared to a 329 for the Tigers. Five Spartans carded scores in the 70’s led by Wyatt Blomseth with a 71. UMM’s Brady Raph was the medalist with a 70.
"We had planned to start spring practice today but got a call from Morris on Friday wondering if we would like to schedule a short notice dual,” stated Spartan Head Coach Jason Retzlaff. “I'm glad we did as it was a beautiful day to play golf. Despite the lack of practice, I thought we played well and had a lot fun. We are thankful that the weather has allowed us to get out as early as I can remember. With the Region Championship moved from October to May, it will be important to get plenty of practice and competition in to prepare."
Carter Justesen fired a 73, Grant Inniger a 74, Hunter Burnside a 76, John Vall a 79 and Mikey Vall an 83 for M State.
The Spartans will compete next on Wednesday, April 14 in a dual competition against Concordia College in Moorhead.
The Region XIII Championship will take place on May 12-13 at Pebble Lake Golf Course in Fergus Falls. It was moved from the month of October to May for reasons related to Covid-19.
