As he enters his 27th season as Head Coach of the Pelican Rapids Boys’ Golf team, Doug Bruggeman does so with thoughts of what might have been in the lost COVID season of 2020, but also with a focus on what can be in 2021.

“We were looking at the 2020 season as a potential season to compete for a Section Championship as they returned all of their golfers from the 2019 season,” said Bruggeman.  “Unfortunately, the Vikings had two seniors who graduated without a season.  Leading this group was Logan Petznick who was a three time all-conference golfer.  We also lost Kirby Nelson to graduation.”

Bruggeman is looking at having a very inexperienced group of golfers filling the six positions on varsity with McHale Korf and Levi Johnson deciding to end their athletic careers at PRHS on the baseball diamond.  That leaves Brady Petznick and Noah Kapenga, both juniors, as the only returning players to have varsity experience.

“We have a solid number of golfers who are deciding to go out for golf this Spring, so it will be a rewarding experience to work with these young men and help them improve their games,” said Coach Bruggeman.
