With no spring season a year ago, Hillcrest Lutheran Academy Softball Coach Megan Riestenberg will be a head coach for a whole season for the first time due to COVID 19 resulting in cancellation of last season.  Caleb Lee will assist Riestenberg.

“We are excited and ready to play this season,” said Coach Riestenberg.  “We’ve been preparing mentally and physically through our strength and conditioning program at Hillcrest.  Our communication on and off the field is strengthened by strong friendships amongst the team.  We have a handful of strong hitters and we also have a lot of young energy, which will be key in perseverance on the field and growing over the season.”

The Comets lost some experienced players after the 2020 hiatus, including Amanda Dekok (P), Julianna Undseth (CF), Olivia Stanton (LF), Molly McGuire (C/3B) and Alexa Ulrich (2B).

“One of our largest hits this year is the loss of our starting pitcher, Amanda Dekok, but we have Madison Foss who is a strong and accurate pitcher to transition into that position,” said Riestenberg.  “We also lost our phenomenal centerfield, Julianna Undseth, so we are still attempting to strengthen our outfield.  We have a small team, so any injuries will take a hard hit at our numbers.”

Returning starters include senior captain Mackenzie Foss (SS), and sophomores Madison Foss (P) and Madison Ballweg (C).  Seniors Alyssa Broyles (3B/OF), Hailee May (2B) and Juliana Viksnes (OF), and junior Regan Wiertzema (1B) will also be key components in the lineup.
