The Albany Huskies played a smothering zone defense that forced 16 Pelican Rapids turnovers and shut down the Viking offense, holding them to just 3 second half points in a 41-12 Albany win in the Class AA State Girls Basketball quarterfinals at Pequot Lakes on Tuesday night.
Albany jumped out to an 8-2 lead, however, the Vikings scored seven straight points to take a 9-8 advantage midway through the first half. The Huskies scored the final ten points of the half as they led 18-9 at the break. They held the Vikings to just one second half field goal, outscoring them 23-3 over the final 18 minutes of play. Pelican Rapids had only four field goals on the night.
Paige Meyer led the Huskies with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Abbie Christen also finished in double figures with 10 points.
Anna Stephenson had 5 points and 7 rebounds for Pelican Rapids, and Chloe Paulson finished with 4 points.
The Vikings 14 game winning streak ended with the loss as they finish the season with a record of 20 wins and 2 losses.
