The M State lady Spartans shot 55% (23-58) from the field, making 64.7% (11-17) of their 3-point shots as they recorded an 82-60 victory over Riverland on Saturday afternoon in Fergus Falls.  M State also held a 49-25 advantage on the boards.

“The girls shot the lights out,” said Head Coach Jodi Holleman.  “It was great to have four girls in double figures.  My favorite stat was the 22 assists.  Also, our defense was outstanding the entire game.”

Sabrina Fronning dished out a team high 11 assists while scoring 16 points and pulling down 6 rebounds.  Emily Larson led the lady Spartans with 21 points, making 5-of-7 3’s.  She added 8 rebounds and 4 assists.  Jayna Gronewold contributed 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals and Kalista Aamot finished with 10 points and 6 rebounds off the bench.  Morgan Evavold chipped in with 8 points and 11 rebounds, and Lindsey Kurz had 7 points, 7 boards and 3 blocked shots.

Riverland was led by Megan Shanahan who scored 22 points, making 6-of-9 three-pointers.  She also had 5 rebounds and 2 steals.  Imani Colon (11 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals) and Deaira Keaton (11 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists) were also in double figures.  Jade Love came off the bench to score 8 points and had 3 steals.  The lady Blue Devils shot just 29.6% (21-71) for the game.

M State will travel to Austin on Monday night for a rematch with Riverland.  If the lady Spartans win the game they will earn the top seed for the MCAC post season tournament and will host the conference championship game next Saturday.  A loss will result in a three-way tie for the top spot and that will lead to a drawing to see the order of finish.  The number two seed will host a game against the number three seed on Thursday night with the winner of that game playing for the conference title on Saturday at the home of the top seed.
