The West Central Area Knights fell 46-40 to Hancock in overtime in the Section 6A South Championship game. Hancock led 23-22 at the half and the teams were tied 40-40 at the end of regulation.

WCA Coach Kraig Hunter said, "Our defense and defensive game plan was good enough to win.  It came down to offense. We didn't make enough shots or free throws. Hancock was able to score first in overtime and converted their free throws and we had trouble getting the ball in the hole. A lot of that is a credit to their defense.  Our coaching staff asks our kids to always play hard and play together and we couldn't be more proud of them for doing that. They left it all on the floor.  Hancock made a couple more plays."

The Knights shot 15-43 for 35% and made 5-23 threes and 5-9 free throws. The Owls shot 15-38 for 40%. They made 3-11 threes and 13-17 free throws.  The Owls held a slight 30-26 edge on the boards and turned the ball over 8 times to 7 for the Knights.

Brady Reeve led the Knights with 16 points, Grant Beuckens had 10 and 5 rebounds, Ryder Staples had 6 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, Jacob Strunk had 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals, Tate Christenson had 3 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists, and Cole Anderson had 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

Matt Thompson led the Owls with 18 points, Preston Rohloff had 9, Kody Berget had 7, Brandon Kellenberger 7, Adam Shaw 3, and Jackson Koehl 2.

Hunter added, "We want to acknowledge our outstanding class of seniors Grant Beuckens, Xander Bontjes, Tate Christenson, Nathaniel Junker and Brady Reeve.  When the sting of this loss is over, they can look back at a lot of accomplishments and a lot of good memories the past couple of years. How many high school players can say in their last two years they played 50 games and won 42 of them, along with two conference championships, a subsection championship and a subsection runner-up.  It's not just that that we're proud of. Our goal is to peak by the end of the year and to play the best basketball we can and they did that.  The way they played down the stretch of the season was some really good basketball. We were 8-4 at one point this season and ended on a seven game winning streak running our record to 15-4 until tonight. We beat some very good teams including Barnesville, Hillcrest, and Ashby in that stretch.  Also, we are proud of the bond our team formed and seeing the love for each other.  Fans don't always see those moments, but this team had that special bond and had many fun, special moments along the way off the court and in practice as well.  Those five seniors were just awesome. Awesome leaders, awesome work ethic and just awesome people. We can't thank them enough for all they gave to our program."

Hancock will now face Mahnomen-Waubun for the Section 6A title on Friday night.
