Henning held a slim 27-26 lead over Underwood at halftime of their 6A girls’ basketball semifinal contest on Tuesday night, however, the Hornets put together a solid second half on the way to a 58-45 victory over the Rockets.

“I’ve got a ton of respect for Brian and Underwood, you know what they are going to do defensively, but still it takes a while to adjust,” said Henning Head Coach Mike Hepola.  “Our seniors came up huge for us after falling behind by double digits early on, they started attacking their zone and getting to the basket.  A nice, tough win versus a very good Underwood team.  Proud of the girls for sticking with it.”

Ellie Dague led the Hornets with 27 points and Kylie Frederick joined her in double digits with 19.  Megan Weber chipped in with 9 points.

“We got off to a great start and had a ten point lead till about the three minute mark in the first half,” stated Underwood Head Coach Brian Hovland.  “Henning went on a run and took a one lead into halftime.  We played a very good team tough for a half, but ran out of gas.”

Leaders for the Rockets were Liz Lukken (11 points, 3 rebounds), Josey Bugbee (14 points, 8 rebounds), Mo Bugbee (8 points, 3 assists), Brooke Hovland (7 points) and Lydia Baker (5 points, 4 rebounds).

“I’m extremely proud of this team, co-conference champions and sub-section runners-up, we had a tremendous season,” noted Coach Hovland.  “A special thank you to the seniors, Ruby Dahlen, Lydia Baker and Brooke Hovland.”

Underwood finishes the season with a record of 17-4.

Henning (20-1) will face West Central Area (16-5) for the Section 6A title at 7:00pm Thursday in Fergus Falls.
