The two-time defending champion Henning boys’ basketball team was eliminated from the Section 6A Tournament on Saturday as they fell to the New York Mills Eagles by the score of 71-44.  The Hornets hung around for the first half, trailing by just 3, 29-26, at the break, however, second half turnovers hurt them as the Eagles put up 42 points over the final 18 minutes of play.

“Tough way to end our season,” said Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades. “New York Mills forced us into a lot of mistakes with their defense and made us play faster than we were comfortable. Their defense was also a big reason we shot so poorly. We have to give a lot of credit to them. We are proud of the effort our team gave not only tonight, but all season.  No one outside of our locker room expected a team with very little varsity experience to finish 14-6 and in second place in the Park Region Conference. Three of those six losses came to NYM.”

Henning was led by Mason Hammer with 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 blocked shots and 2 assists.  Kale Misegades scored 9 points, Calvin Stueve had 7 points, Tanner Arndt contributed 7 points, 3 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 blocked shots, and Joe Angell finished with 6 points and 7 boards.

“I want to thank seniors Joe Angell and Ethan Houselog. Those two guys are team leaders, tremendous young men, and were part of some very successful basketball teams throughout their career.  They will be missed, but will always remain a part of our program,” noted Coach Misegades.  “We have some positive things to build upon and we will be back in 2021-22 with a hard working group with a lot of potential. The off-season will be very important for the development of our team.”
