The Fergus Falls Otter boys basketball team advanced to the semi-finals of Section 8 AA following a 66-36 quarter-final home court win Saturday afternoon. As the number one seed, they will host Warroad Wednesday night at 7 p.m. for the right to advance to Fridays title game. The Warriors advanced as they edged Breckenridge 62-58.

Gaining the opening tip, the Otters opened scoring on an inside bucket from Chance Fazio. Hawley quickly knotted the contest, but Fergus Falls went on a 17-0 run to lead 19-2 at the 10:00 mark. The Nuggets struggled on offense, going nearly ten minutes without scoring until Mason Gratton ended the drought. Fazio had a huge opening half with 14 points, including a monster two-handed slam-dunk with just under three minutes to go giving the Otters a commanding 27-10 lead.

Fergus Falls took a 37-14 advantage into the half, hitting 51% of their shots (15-31). Hawley struggled against the Otter zone defense, making just 6-of-24 attempts for 25%.

Hawley opened scoring in the second half on a Brady Gratton basket. Fazio answered for the Otters, but fell hard on the play injuring his right ankle with 16:36 to go. He was escorted to the locker room and did not return. The extent of his injury and status unknown. Despite the loss of their post player, the Otters built the lead to as much as 34 points (60-16), before unloading the bench.

Hawley would finish the contest shooting 31% (14-45), while the Otters made half of their 58 attempts for 50%. Following Fazio's 16 points, Abel Aho and Luke Newman were also in double figures with 12 and 10, respectively. Austin Rinke, with extended minutes in place of Fazio, muscled his way to 9 second-half points, and, not looking to score but run the offense, Dominic Aguilar settled for 8 points, all in the opening half. Hayden Grani led the Nuggets with 9 points, on three treys.

Winners of six straight, Fergus Falls improves to 13-7, while the Nuggets end their season with a record of 8-12.
