Viking Girls Turn in Dominant Performace in Win Over Panthers

The defending Section 8AA girls’ basketball champions from Pelican Rapids established control early in their game against Park Rapids Area on Friday night, jumping out to a 36-8 halftime lead on the way to a 56-27 victory over the Panthers.  Pelican led 23-3 with 8:20 to go in the first half and Park Rapids didn’t score their first field goal until the 3:30 mark of the half.

 

Greta Tollefson scored all of her game high 18 points in the first half.  She also added 5 rebounds.  Anna Stephenson contributed a double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds) and dished out 3 assists.  Morgan Korf had a solid stat line with 6 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists, and Ellie Welch was strong off the bench with 4 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

Ten players scored for the Vikings in the game and Pelican Rapids dominated the boards, 45-16.

Hannah Morgan paced Park Rapids Area with 11 points.

The 18-1 Vikings will host Barnesville (13-5) in a 6A semifinal contest on Tuesday night.  The Trojans knocked off the number one seed in the North, Crookston, 53-43 in their quarterfinal round matchup.
