The West Central Area Knights built a 44-18 halftime lead on the way to a 76-37 girls’ basketball playoff win over Brandon-Evansville on Wednesday night in Barrett.  Lexi Bright became WCA School All-Time leading scorer as she went past 1,746 career points.

“Lexi has been a phenomenal player from her first varsity moments to now, and she has worked extremely hard to put herself in the position to break the record,” said WCA Head Coach Eric Schoenbauer. “Her teammates continue to believe in her and play to her strengths as well as their own.”

The scorebook for the game was headlined by Lexi Bright with 18 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists and 7 steals. Mya Foslien scored 10 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, assisted on a basket and stole the ball once. Elizabeth Rustan had 8 points, 2 rebounds and a steal. Brynn Fernholz had 9 steals, 7 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Claire Stark also had 7 points, 6 rebounds and a steal. Macy Grosz had 7 points and 3 steals. Kennedy Ulrich had 5 points, a rebound and an assist. Chloe LaRue had 4 points and a rebound. Sydney Ulrich had 4 points, 3 rebounds and a steal. Brooke Anderson scored 2 points, 2 rebounds and a steal. Addison Staples had 2 points, 2 rebounds and a steal. Kaitlyn Hansen had 2 points, 2 steals and a rebound. Halle Foslien had 2 rebounds and a steal.

“We ended our season tonight against a tough West Central team that is playing with supreme confidence and purpose,” said Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Zach Traphagen. “Unfortunately, we never really gave ourselves a fighting chance in this game due to our inability to take care of the ball. A lot of that is credit to West Central, but we know that we need to improve immensely in that part of the game as a team and program moving forward.”

Bailey Schaefer led the Chargers with 21 points and 4 rebounds.  Mikenna Pattrin added 5 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 assists.

“Losing is tough, but seeing the final seconds tick off the clock and the tears on the faces of the seniors is what really makes this hard,” added Coach Traphagen. Bailey, Mikenna and Korrie Randt did so much for this team the last two years. We are extremely proud of those girls and will certainly miss them next year.”

Brandon-Evansville ends their season with a record of 9-10.

West Central Area (14-5) will travel to Parkers Prairie for a quarterfinal matchup on Friday night.
