The Henning Hornets and Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines battled through three overtime sessions on Monday night before the Hornets walked away with an 80-75 victory in Henning.

“Tremendous effort by our guys tonight,” stated Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades. “We never quit after trailing by 11 in the second half. We just battled and made some huge plays down the stretch. Both teams made big-time shots late in the ball game.  Peyton Rondesvedt and Zach Shaw made a lot of contested buckets for WDC throughout the game. We didn’t have an answer for those guys.”

Twice the Hornets had to score to extend the game and both times they made the plays to get it done. Kale Misegades (10 points) made a huge 3 to send them into the first OT with the game tied at 57-57. After the Wolverines hit a 3 to force a second OT with the game even at 65-65, Tyson Misegades (19 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals) made a runner at the buzzer to extend the game to a third extra session with things all knotted up at 72 apiece.   The Hornets took control in the third overtime, outscoring the Wolverines 8-3.

Mason Hammer (23 points, 11 rebounds, 5 steals, 4 assists) and Tanner Arndt (16 points, 7 assists, 2 blocks, 4 rebounds, 2 steals) scored, rebounded, and distributed the ball throughout the game,” noted Coach Misegades. “They were huge along with Joe Angell (12 points, 6 rebounds) down low. We were proud of the effort and energy from Ethan Houselog (5 rebounds) and Calvin Stueve (4 assists) as well. Without those guys we don’t win the game.”

Henning (11-5) will host Verndale on Friday night and will close out their regular season schedule with an afternoon game in Underwood on Saturday.

Wadena-Deer Creek (9-7) will host Staples-Motley Thursday and play at Menahga Friday.
