The New York Mills boys’ basketball team won two road games this past week.  On Tuesday they defeated Wadena-Deer Creek 81 to 49 and on Friday they recorded a 74-54 win over Menahga.

Against WDC Tate Olson led the way with 23 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals.  He was joined in double digits by Jonah Johnson (12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists) and Derin Gaudette (11 points, 3 steals, 2 rebounds).  Breck Hensch added 9 points, 4 assists and 2 steals, Noah Noffsinger chipped in with 7 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists, and Isaiah Laudenbach contributed 7 points, 2 assists and 2 steals.

“It was a game we had been looking forward to since they beat us earlier in the year,” said Eagles Head Coach Jason Boe.  “We set the tone early with our defensive pressure and we were much better prepared against their zone defense.  We attacked it from various angles which gave us better looks at the basket.  It was a good team win.  We had 22 assists as a team.”

Olson poured in 35 points and finished his double-double with 14 rebounds, while adding 3 assists in the win over Menahga.  Gaudette had 10 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists, Johnson 8 points, 4 rebounds, Laudenbach 7 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and Jace Rudolph 4 points, 4 steals.

“The win secured the conference for us,” said Coach Boe.  “We’re very proud of our boys for achieving this pre-season goal.  It’s been a long time since our program won the Park Region Conference.”

New York Mills (13-2) ran their winning streak to 9 games and will play at Pillager on Monday and host Bertha-Hewitt on Friday.
