The Hillcrest boys’ basketball team held a slim 22-20 halftime margin on Monday night against Brandon-Evansville, however, the Comets outscored the Chargers 37-26 over the final 18 minutes to record a 59-46 Little Eight Conference victory.

“Good win for our boys tonight,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Ryan Garvin. “Three of our four starters were in early foul trouble and in it for most of the game so they didn't seem to get into any meaningful rhythm on either end of the floor. Coach Hintermeister always does a great job against us. The coaches were noting after the game how well he game plans. The Chargers played us tough tonight.”

Sam Brumfield led the Comets with 17 points and 3 rebounds.  Micah Foss and Joel Quam added 10 points each and Noah Brumfield finished with 7 points and 4 rebounds.  Caden Fischer contributed 4 points and 4 assists, and Yuchan Ha had 4 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals.

“Sam Brumfield had a good offensive evening tonight,” noted Coach Garvin. “He hit some big shots in the second half to make the lead a little more comfortable. I think Noah Brumfield had another great evening for us as well. He gets the big board when you need it and hit a timely three from the corner when Brandon went to their 1-3-1. Huge shot. I thought our decision making in terms of our shot selection was one of the best I've seen this year. We're improving when it matters. And we still aren't satisfied. A lot left to tweak and improve.”

Leaders for Brandon-Evansville were Titus Fuller (15 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists), Kobe Reiland (8 points) and Brian Lauthen (8 points).

Hillcrest (9-5) will host Underwood at 3 o’clock on Saturday afternoon in another Little 8 Conference battle.

Brandon-Evansville (4-10) will play at Underwood on Tuesday and will host Swanville on Saturday afternoon at 3:30pm in Evansville.
