Spartan Men Come Up Short in Battle with Rochester

M State led at halftime 32-28 and trailed by just one point with under five minutes to play in Rochester on Saturday afternoon, however, the Yellowjackets were able to finish strong and hand the Spartans a 68-56 loss.

M State featured three double digit scorers in the game, led by Tyrell Ross-Childs with 19.  Nic Pearson and Kellen Hinsz added 12 and 11 points, respectively.  Renell Edwards had a team high 7 rebounds and also led the team with 5 assists and 2 steals.  Hinsz grabbed 5 boards, while Pearson, Ross-Childs, Samuel Dalton and Carter Cresap each dished out 3 assists.

The Spartans shooting kept them close as they hit 45% (23-51) from the field.  They also held a slim 28-27 advantage on the boards.

Rochester shot 43.5% (27-62).  They were led by Keivonte Watts with 21 points and Jerome Cunningham with 15.  Rebound leaders were Devyn Frye and Cunningham with 6 each.  Frye distributed a team high 8 assists and led the Yellowjackets with 4 steals.

M State (0-4) will host Minnesota West on Wednesday night in Fergus Falls.
