The West Central Area Lady Knights hosted the Hillcrest Comets on Thursday night in a section 6A and Conference matchup. The Game would start out at a rigorous pace and through some missed opportunities on both ends the game was 13-11 with 9 minutes to play. The Knights would go on a 14 to 5 run to finish the first half leading 27-16. The second half began and the Comets would battle back and only trail by 6 points with a score of 36-30. Then the Knights went on a 24-6 run to finish the game, resulting in a final score of 60-34.
“We struggled against West Central’s defensive pressure tonight,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark. “Our shots were rushed and we never really got into any sort of rhythm. We rebounded the basketball well with Regan Wiertzema and Madi Foss grabbing 10 apiece. Cassy Twedt had a good game for us scoring 10 points in addition to playing great on ball defense.”
The Lady Knights were led by Lexi Bright with 17 points, 6 steals, 3 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 blocks. Brynn Fernholz had 10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals and an assist. Elizabeth Rustan had 9 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Claire Stark had 8 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, a block and an assist. Mya Foslien had 4 points and 2 rebounds. Kaitlyn Hansen had 3 points, 2 rebounds and a steal. Addison Staples had 2 points, 2 rebounds and an assist. Chloe LaRue had 2 points and a steal. Kennedy Ulrich had 6 rebounds, 2 points and a steal. Jayden Styba had 2 points and 4 rebounds. Halle Foslien had 4 rebounds and a point. Macy Grosz had 2 rebounds and an assist. Brooke Anderson had 3 rebounds and an assist. Sydney Ulrich had 2 rebounds and an assist.
“Tonight we began to play much better together and that is the biggest take away for us as a team!” exclaimed Coach Eric Schoenbauer of the Knights.
