St. Cloud Tech jumped out to a 20-8 lead on the Fergus Falls boys’ basketball team on Tuesday night, increased their lead to 18 points and led by 16, 37-21 at the half on the way to a 66-61 win at the Kennedy Secondary School in Fergus Falls.

Tech capitalized on numerous second and third chance scoring opportunities off offensive rebounds in the first half and the Tigers knocked down seven 3’s.  Fergus Falls struggled to make their shots and struggled to get good outside looks against a strong man-to-man half-court defensive effort by Tech.

In the second half the Otters did a better job attacking the basket and fought back behind the aggressive play of Dominic Aguilar and Abel Aho to take their only lead of the night at 57-56 with 3:15 to play in the game.  Tech was able to regain the lead and hold it for the win.  The Otters also did a better job limiting Tech’s offensive rebounds in the second half.

Aguilar scored 18 of his game high 25 in the second half and Aho had 11 of his 14 over the final 18 minutes.  Luke Newman added 15 points for the Otters, however, Fergus Falls struggled at the free throw line, making only 9-of-22 foul shots.  The Otters took great care of the ball, turning it over only 3 times on the night.  Fergus Falls is still without Chance Fazio who is nursing an ankle injury.  They were also missing post player Austin Rinke who was ill.

Tech had 3 players reach double figures, led by 22 from Devin Yeager who recorded a double-double, adding 14 rebounds.  KT Norwood had 13 and Kaiden Moua finished with 11.  The Tigers had 20 turnovers.

Fergus Falls (7-4) will play at Alexandria on Thursday.
