The Brandon-Evansville girls’ basketball team came from behind to edge Battle Lake 54-53 in a Little Eight Conference contest on Monday night in Brandon.  The lady Battlers led 23-21 at the half.

“The girls persevered and stayed with it tonight to earn a come from behind Little 8 Conference win,” commented Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Zach Traphagen. “We made just enough plays in the end to hold on to the lead and then Kaytlyn Pattrin sank a huge free throw to make it 54-50 with 6 seconds left to go. It is a really good feeling to play as hard as we did and get rewarded with a win.”

Bailey Schaefer poured in 31 points to lead the Chargers.  She also pulled down 6 rebounds and had 8 steals.  Kiley Lund added 6 points and 6 boards and Korrie Randt contributed 3 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.

“Another excellent performance from Bailey Schaefer tonight,” noted Coach Traphagen. Also was very happy with Olivia Otto's defense and the work Kiley Lund and Korrie Randt did on both ends of the court.”

Leaders for Battle Lake were Morgan Malone with 18 points, Ady Tysdal with 15 and Grace VanErp with 13.

“The game was close from start to finish, but a late run by the Chargers gave them a small lead and we were forced to foul,” reported Battle Lake Head Coach David Marso.  “Ady made a last second three point shot, but it left us with a one point loss.  Bailey Schaefer had a great game with 18 of her 31 points in the second half.   We just couldn’t slow her down.”

Brandon-Evansville (5-6) is off until next Monday when they have a home game against Hancock.

Battle Lake (5-7) will host New York Mills on Friday night.
