The Fergus Falls girls’ basketball team put an end to the 7 game winning streak by the Crookston Pirates when they handed the Pirates a 44-37 defeat on Friday night at the Kennedy Secondary School Gold Gymnasium.  The Otters never trailed in a game they led by as many as ten points.  Their halftime lead was 22-13.

“Great defensive game tonight,” commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Brad Strand.  “Crookston has a few long, athletic girls who are tough on defense.  The Otters also played great defense throughout the game.  This game will definitely make both teams better as we start the second half of the season.  Crookston is positioning themselves to be the number one seed on the north side of Section 8AA.”

Ellie Colbeck registered a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds.  She also had 3 assists and 2 steals.  Tori Ratz was 4-for-8 on 3-point field goal attempts, finishing with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals.  Paige Pearson snared 6 rebounds, dished out 3 assists, had 2 blocked shots and scored 5 points.

Crookston senior Emma Borowicz had 11 of her team high 13 points in the second half.  The Pirates struggled on the free throw line, making only 5-of-18.

Fergus Falls (6-3) will travel to Bemidji for a game on Thursday night, before returning home for a 2:30pm contest on Saturday, February 20 against Sauk Rapids-Rice.
