Big First Half Carries Rochester Past M State

The M State Spartan men's basketball team opened MCAC conference play on Saturday against Rochester.  Rochester came out firing from the opening tip. They outscored the Spartans 52-23 in the first half on 61% shooting, including 50% from beyond the arc.   The Spartans were able to make some adjustments in the second half and played with the Yellow Jackets.  The first half proved too much to overcome and the Spartans fell 92-55.  The Spartans fall to 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in the MCAC.

Mert Taylor led the Spartans with 10 points. Tyrell Ross-Childs contributed 8 points and led M State with 10 rebounds.  M State struggled with their shooting, hitting just 37.7% (20-53) on the day.  Rochester held a commanding 43-26 advantage on the boards.

AJ Frasier led the Yellowjackets with a game high 20 points, while Jerome Cunningham collected 9 rebounds and dished out 6 assists.

The Spartan men will take to the road to play MCAC foe Minnesota West on Wednesday.  Opening tip is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
