Otters Overcome Halftime Deficit to Beat Bemidji

The Fergus Falls boys’ basketball team overcame a 30-26 halftime deficit on Tuesday night and went on to defeat the Bemidji Lumberjacks by the score of 54-51.

The Otters were trailing 30-18, but cut the halftime margin to four points by scoring the final eight points of the first half.  They started the second half with five straight points to take a 31-30 lead, but Bemidji regained a six point advantage before the Otters fought back.  Leading by one point with 40 seconds to go in the game, Dominic Aguilar went to the line and knocked down a pair of free throws to provide a 3 point lead, which the Otters maintained the rest of the game.  The Aguilar free throws were the only two the Otters made out of eight attempts.

Chance Fazio had another double-double for the Otters, scoring 14 points and gathering 12 rebounds.  He also blocked eight shots and dished out 3 assists.  Aguilar and Abel Aho each had 10 points and Aguilar added 9 assists and 5 rebounds.  Luke Newman finished with 8 points and 4 boards, while Elliot Pribbenow contributed 8 points.

Bemidji was led by Isaac Severts with 13 points.  Their leading scorer on the season, Gavin Luksik, was held to 7 points and had 7 rebounds.  Point guard Isaiah Biehn finished with 3 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

Fergus Falls (4-2) has won three straight games and will host Sauk Rapids-Rice in a Central Lakes Conference matchup on Friday night.
