The New York Mills boys’ basketball team split their two games during the past week.  On Tuesday night they were able to post an 80-59 win over the Trojans and on Friday it was the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines who handed New York Mills a 59-55 defeat.

Against Sebeka Derin Gaudette scored 24 points, snared 5 rebounds and dished out 4 assists.  Jonah Johnson had 19 points, 6 boards and 3 assists, Noah Noffsinger contributed 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists, Breck Hensch finished with 8 points, 3 steals and 2 assists, Chase Keskitalo chipped in with 8 points, 5 rebounds and a steal, and Isaiah Laudenbach added 4 points and 4 rebounds, while taking 3 charges.

"We handled their zone and shot the ball well,” said New York Mills Head Coach Jason Boe.  “Our defensive intensity started off good but lagged off considerably in the second half.  We still need to get in better game shape, but it was a good conference win."

In the loss to WDC the Eagles were led by Tate Olson (18 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists), Johnson (14 points, 3 rebounds), Gaudette (13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists), Noffsinger (6 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists) and Hensch (4 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists).

“We shot extremely poorly and found it extremely difficult to find any shots by the rim,” commented Boe.  “You have to give them credit, their 3-2 defense was tough.  We’re going to have to shoot and move the ball better against these sorts of defenses in the future.”

New York Mills (4-2) will host Menahga on Thursday.
