Raiders Split the Week, Improve to 4-2

Last Tuesday, Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale/Parkers Prairie traveled to Minnewaska for a triangular against the 5th ranked Lakers and top ranked LPGE-Browerville Wolves.  After starting the year 2-0, it was a good early test to see where the Raiders need to improve. 

The Lakers opened the scoring with a decision before the Raiders picked up back-to-back falls from David Revering and Deagen Captain for the 12-3 lead.  Minnewaska sept the next three weights taking the lead 15-12.  Blake Sumstad would earn his first career victory to even up at the dual at 15 a piece with a decision at the midway point.  However, the strength of the Lakers line-up showed in the top end of the dual as they rattled off wins in six of the seven matches.  Only Tyler Eggert was able to secure a major decision at 195 to wrap up the dual 48-19.

Next up was the two-time defending champion Wolves.  A late third period come from behind fall for Bennet Arceneau gave the Raiders a 6-0 lead.  The Wolves cut it in half with a decision at 113.  Captain added a major decision to make it 10-3.  After a fall for the Wolves at 126, Aiden Larson earned a hard-fought decision at 132 to bring the tallies to 13-9 looking into the Wolves teeth of the line-up.  LPGEB would run away with the next five weights getting falls in four of them to run the score up to 36-13.  The final four weight would be decisions and split with Brock Peterson and James Grant winning for the Raiders to total the dual at 42-19.  The individual match results were as follows:

Three days later the Raiders traveled to the Hive in Perham to face the 12th ranked Yellowjackets and the Lean and Mean UNC Warriors.  The host Yellowjackets opened the scoring with a decision at 106.  Revering, Captain, and Evan Jares answered with pins to give the Raiders a 18-3 lead.  Jares earning his first career victory with a quick fall.  Perham battled back winning the next two matches to make it 18-11.  Reese Thompson delivered a decision and the Raiders were up 21-11 half way through.  Perham would continue to respond winning the next two to draw within a point.  The teams would split falls at 170 and 182 to keep it close at 27-26 before the Raiders rattled off falls in the final three matches from Hunter Dean, Gideon Ervasti, and Grant for the 45-26 victory.

The Raiders started off the nightcap of the triangular strong winning the bottom four weights.  A decision for Jares, a forfeit for Revering, and falls for Arceneau and Captain made it 21-0.  United North Central then took control of the dual by winning the next five weights to take the lead 27-21.  However, the top end for the Raiders regained control of the dual with falls from Schroeder, Peterson, Eggert, and Ervasti to secure the victory at 45-33.  The individual match results were as follows:
