Cook Double-Double Carries Ashby Past Underwood

The Ashby boys’ basketball team took control early on Friday night in Underwood as they built a 42-9 halftime lead on the way to a 61-23 victory over the Rockets.

Ashby made 48% (24-49) of their shots from the floor and held Underwood to 21% (8-38) shooting on the night.  The Arrows held a 34-17 edge on the boards and forced 20 Underwood turnovers.

Jacob Cook had a big night for the Arrows with 22 points, 17 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals andn 2 blocked shots. Torin Olson finished with 13 points and 3 assists, Derrek Bartz contributed 7 points and Jaden Norby added 5 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists.  Hunter Norby chipped in with 5 points and 3 assists.

“We were very active defensively and turned defense into transition baskets,” said Ashby Head Coach John Holsten.  “The only negative event in the game for the Arrows was senior transfer Zach Buck suffered a significant ankle injury after scoring his second basket of the evening.”

Krosby Aasness paced the Rockets with 9 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a blocked shot.  Joey Kupfer had 5 points and Bryce Jorgenson snared 4 rebounds.

"We didn't come out with the intensity that we needed to against a very solid Ashby team tonight,” commented Underwood Head Coach Evan Meece.  “We couldn't keep up with the pressure and the speed that they brought to the court."

Underwood (0-3) will travel to Evansville on Tuesday for a Little Eight Conference game against the Brandon-Evansville Chargers.

Ashby (2-0) will host Rothsay on Tuesday.
