The Battle Lake boys' basketball team was back in action Friday night on the road versus Brandon-Evansville. The game was tight from the start, and it continued to be a nail-biter throughout with the home team coming up with a hard fought 49-47 victory.

The Chargers took advantage of a couple turnovers and defensive breakdowns by the Battlers to go on a run towards the end of the first half, and they went into the break with a five point lead, leading 32-27.

Battle Lake came out of halftime with a sense of urgency, scoring a couple of easy buckets to gain the lead part way through the second half after Coach Tyler Owen emphasized the importance of being patient offensively and taking what the defense gave them. However, the Battlers struggled late in the game against Brandon-Evansville's extended zone, and after missing a couple shots, the Chargers were able to regain the lead. Battle Lake had a chance to get back into the game, but it was too little too late. The Chargers sneaked past the Battlers 49-47, bringing them to 1-2 on the season.

Battle Lake's Drew Johnson led all scorers with 15 points, scoring all of his points on three-point field goals. Tyler Bitzan led the charge for Brandon Evansville, scoring a team high 14 points.

Brandon-Evansville (1-2) will host Underwood in their next game on Tuesday, while Battle Lake plays at Parkers Prairie.
