Thursday night saw the season home opener for the Lady Knights hosting the New London-Spicer Wildcats in Barrett. This game would go on to be an instant classic, and all fans in attendance got their money's worth as the Wildcats rallied for a 57-53 win.

The first half was a battle of wills in a back and forth tightly contested matchup. The Lady Knights clung to a 11-8 lead out of the gates, but by halftime that lead was down to just one point with the Lady Knights leading 32-31 at the midpoint.

The second half began with the Lady Knights growing their lead to an 11 point margin. Slowly but surely the Wildcats cut into the lead. The Lady Knights held a 51-49 advantage with 2:54 remaining in the game. The Lady Knights had a few chances to secure a win but the ball just did not go through the hole. An amazing block on the defensive end that led to a four point lead for the Wildcats sealed the Lady Knights fate.

WCA Head Coach Eric Schoenbauer said, “This was one of the best games I have been a part of in the fact that it was full of mini games within the game. If you are a true basketball fan this was a game for you. It did not go our way in the end, but I am proud of the way our team played. There are things to clean up a little to make us a better team and it absolutely sucks losing, but this game will help us get to where we need to be later.”

The Lady Knights were led by Lexi Bright with 28 points to go along with her 4 steals, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Elizabeth Rustan had 10 points on the evening, 2 steals, 2 rebounds and an assist. Brynn Fernholz had 7 points, 2 steals, a rebound and an assist. Claire Stark had 4 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Halle Foslien had 2 points, 3 rebounds and an assist.
