Sartell/Sauk Rapids battled back from a 3-2 deficit after two periods to record a 5-3 girls’ hockey victory over Fergus Falls on Thursday night at the Community Arena.

Following a scoreless first period the Otters struck for two goals in a twenty-two second span of the second period to take a 2-0 lead.  An unassisted goal by Gabby Brimhall got the Otters on the board at the 2:28 mark of the second period and Brimhall then setup Piper Andrews for her third goal of the season at 2:50 of the period.  Sartell/Sauk Rapids defenseman Morgan Cromwell buried a shot from the right points, assisted by Lauren Wensel at 6:31, cutting the Fergus Falls lead in half.  Andrews notched her second goal of the night on the power play at 11:14 with an assist from Maddie Hulter and the Otters led 3-1.  The Storm’N’Sabres scored with just 31 seconds left in the period when Taylor Scepaniak converted a pass from Ingrid Buiceag-Arama, trimming the Fergus Falls lead to 3-2.

Sartell/Sauk Rapids tied the game with a goal by Chloe Reiter at 8:10 of the third, assisted by Bella Lien.  The go ahead goal came from Scepaniak at 10:56 with an assist from Jayden Lommel.  The win was assured when Lommel scored at 14:19 from Buiceag-Arama.

“Defensive zone breakdowns were our demise tonight,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Tim Lill.  “It takes a total team effort and we are missing too many assignments, but we will get the ship righted.”

Sartell/Sauk Rapids finished with 28 shots on goal and Fergus Falls had 20.  Ana Jyrkas stopped 23 shots in the Otter net.

The Otters (1-3) will travel to Pequot Lakes Tuesday for a game against Northern Lakes.
