Celi Nelson poured in 28 points, hitting six 3’s in the process to lead the Ashby Arrows to a 51-43 Little Eight Conference win in Rothsay on Tuesday night.  Catherine Koefod added 9 points, 4 assists and 3 steals.  Kyra Aamot chipped in with 7 points and Cailey Schlosser led the team with 8 rebounds.

“Very happy with the way the girls played today,” said Ashby Head Coach Kip Nelson.  “We put pressure on most of the game, the girls stuck with it and left everything on the floor.  The girls won this game through pure effort, it was fun to watch.  We still have a lot of cleaning up to do, did not rebound well, Rothsay really hurt us on the offensive boards.  We also have to take care of the basketball and keep teams off the free throw line.  But overall, a really good win.”

Rothsay was led by Abby Honer (9 points, 6 rebounds), Grace Lider (9 points, 4 rebounds) and Summer Wigdahl (8 points, 5 rebounds).

“Ashby shot the ball well tonight and we didn't have an answer for Celi Nelson,” commented Rothsay Head Coach Anita Heier. “I thought our girls played hard tonight but we still have a lot to improve on. We are still out of sync on offense as we continue to develop our roles on the team. That will come as the season progresses. The one thing I never have to question is their effort and their heart.”

Ashby (1-1) hosts Hillcrest in a LEC contest on Thursday, while Rothsay (1-1) goes to Brandon to face Brandon-Evansville.
