The Rothsay boys’ basketball team travelled to Henning for a non-conference matchup Tuesday night.  Rothsay started hot going in to halftime with a 40-28 lead.

“Rothsay has a nice team and they are well coached,” said Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades. “They have five guys who are really solid, experienced, play hard, and play well together. We are proud of our kids for never quitting. We struggled on both ends of the floor in the first half. Our shot selection was poor and we were awful on the defensive end guarding the ball screens. We were able fight back and take the lead in the second half, but Rothsay battled and forced OT.  We made enough plays to find a way.”

Henning came storming back to start the 2nd half with a 14-2 run, and extending their lead to 10 at one point.   The Tigers didn’t back down, clawing their way back to force a tie with a basket by Tanner Heier with 5 seconds to go to send it to overtime.

Rothsay gained an early lead in OT with a score by Tanner Heier and Matt Danielson but Tanner Arndt from Henning was too much down the stretch.   Henning finished the game with two Arndt free throws to win by a 72-68 final.

"Tanner Arndt carried us and Mason Hammer made some huge plays when we needed them," noted Misegades. "As a team, we rebounded much better than in our first game. We are excited to pick up a win, but we have a ton of things to work on to get better."

“Our boys played hard all night, but the first 8 minutes to the 2nd half proved to hurt us,” said Rothsay Head Coach Taylor Fuhs.  “We shot the ball with a lot more confidence and we’re much more aggressive which was great to see.”

Rothsay was led by Colby Larson with 29 points, Matthew Danielson with 16, and Tanner Heier with 14.

Tanner Arndt paced Henning with 35 points and Mason Hammer had 23 points and 8 rebounds.  Joe Angell had a team high 9 rebounds and Tyson Misegades had 6 rebounds and 5 assists.  The Hornets hit 44% (30-68) of their field goal attempts.

Rothsay (1-1) will host Ortonville on Thursday night.

Henning (1-1) is at Bertha-Hewitt Thursday night.
