The Battle Lake boys’ basketball team started off their home schedule strongly Monday night in a physical matchup versus Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley. The Battlers defense held the Wolverines to an astounding 12 points in the first half, and went into halftime with a 12 point advantage, leading 24-12.

“We came into the second half looking to keep up the defensive intensity, clean up our rebounding, and push the ball down the court more frequently,” commented Head Coach Tyler Owen of the Battlers. “That recipe led to great success in the second half as we went on a nice run to eventually put the Wolverines away.”

Battle Lake earned their first win of the season with a final score of 65-38. Brady VanErp led the Battlers in scoring with 19 points, 11 of which came from the free throw line. Kayne Cameron also had a strong performance, scoring 17 points while also knocking down 7 free throws.

The Battlers will be back in action on Friday night at Brandon-Evansville.
