Last season the Barnesville girls’ basketball team was on a mission to find a solid core of players to fill the void left by the previous year’s graduation when they lost four seniors who played three-plus years of varsity basketball.  Entering the 2021 season the Trojans have everyone returning from that 12-15 team and all with extensive varsity experience from last year.

“We will be a year older with our core group of players,” stated Head Coach Ryan Bomstad.  “They have grown every year and are ready to take the next step in the process.  They know it won’t be easy in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference and Section 8AA.  We will continue to work hard and compete every day to get better.  We want to build off the momentum that we developed at the end of last season.”

The Trojans bring back seniors Sam Passa (Guard), Kim Maesse (Guard), Olivia Sorenson (Forward) and Kiana Amundson (Forward), juniors Lexi Bolgrean (Guard), Emily Bredman (Forward), Trinity Gregg (Guard) and Lauren Halverson (Post) and  sophomores Sydney Strand (Guard), Kenzie Skogen (Guard) and Emily Smith (Post).

Sophomores Belle Peterson (Guard), Jaida Bontjes (Guard) and Emily Riddle (Post), freshman Kenadee Gray (Guard) and eighth-grader Abby John (Guard) are all competing for varsity spots.

“Our conference is so tough and it will be again to close to call,” said Coach Bomstad.  “Fergus Falls would be the favorite in the Section and State as they are pre-season number one.”

Bomstad will be assisted by Alli Skogen and Nycole Mouritsen.
